Wednesday, October 28

Walls have been primed for paint.
Staff had a field trip to the new office suite this afternoon. I think everyone enjoyed their visit to see how our new space is coming together. Staff were given an opportunity to choose an accent color for one of their walls - tally is 8 charred clay; 3 evening shadow; and 5 salisbury green.
Another option for staff to consider in organization is the slatwall systems. See the email about it on Thursday.

Received some distressing news from UM IT late afternoon that our internet and phone antennae is on hold with the powers that make decisions at W.T. They had decided internally to not allow any more antennae's on top and failed to inform anyone. so keep fingers crossed that we will be allowed to move forward.

Tip for Packing Away Files

Hello all!

I was packing files and I thought I would share something that I learned at a class I took long ago about file retention. The one thing they stressed about packing away files is to not put the hanging folders in boxes. If you are packing the files away to be put in storage (like old accounting files or event files) there is no use for the hanging files in the banker boxes, they add a lot of weight to the box, and they are too expensive to just be "hanging out" in a box.

Hope this helps as we all finish packing up our offices for the big move!!

packing

Hi,
Many of the moving companies have crates we can rent. These crates are easier to pack and transport items, especially hanging file folders I'm told. I recommend holding off on packing any file cabinets until we receive these. I will make a decision on movers by the end of the month. Also 3 of the companies said that the bottom two drawers could remain full on the laterals. So that is an additional thing not to pack.

Map of Area

I can't figure out how to open the map itself up to others, but if you send me an address and info on something nearby and interesting, I am happy to add it to this map.

October 21, 2009 (2)

And the server rack was installed on Monday. Check it out Chris and Marc :)

Cabinets were being installed today and look fantastic. (check out the pics) Crew is finishing the mudding and sanding of the drywall and the painters hope to begin this weekend. Cubbies you see in a few walls are for fire extinguishers. Carpenter was going to start hanging doors and the trim work today.

Cork flooring will be shipped on the 6th, need to wait until that is installed to install dishwasher and new refrigerator. MCT tile is backordered and looking at a Oct 15 ship date. Keep fingers crossed it is not any later than that to delay move.

Would like to take all staff for a visit in a week or so. Give you an opportunity to see your office space and visualize organizing it.

Friday, October 9

Hurray, a decision was agreed to today by Jolene and Donna to move forward and finalize the remaining upgrade options for the buildout. Several of the options had high price tags and we wanted to be sure that these options would fit our budget. We will not upgrade the lighting, but will upgrade the ceiling tile,

Thursday, October 8

Met with Lori our interior designer today at the Hobbs & Black offices to review the flooring options for the kitchen and bathrooms. I really like the look of the cork flooring and have chosen that for the kitchen, and MCT tile for the bathrooms in three colors which will be laid out in a line pattern. In addition to the flooring upgrades to increase our sustainability I have also chosen a rubber base board that contains a high level of reusable content and looks better and will last longer than the standard vinyl base board. Both cork and MCT are highly sustainable products.

Lori is going to create a materials packet for us so I can share all the choices with you.

Wednesday, October 7 - Site Visit

A lot of changes to be seen this week as framing is complete. I can really feel how the office is taking shape. Had a good discussion with the electrician about the electrical upgrades and options, I'm leaning towards no upgrade in the fixtures, but an upgrade in the bulbs. John, the electrician will put samples in the fixtures for me to make a decision.

New photos taken today of the framing. They expect the drywall to be delivered by Friday and installed within a week and a half or so.

Met a janitorial service provider on site to review our need so he can provide a proposal.

Decisions - Janitorial and In/Out board

Tuesday, October 6
At the staff meeting today we agreed that we would try janitorial service on a twice per week basis and that we would eliminate the use of the in/out board and utilize our web offering instead, notifying of available/ busy / remote via AIM and out staff google calendar.

Sustainability

We are creating a space that will allow us to be more sustainable in our daily activities and utilizing materials that are higher in recycled content, reusing materials already in place, and higher energy efficiencies.

We agreed to share kitchen duty with the availability of a dishwasher and garbage disposal - eliminating the use of paper plates and plastic cutlery, and reducing the use of paper towels. We will purchase dishes and silverware from local reuse centers. Donations are welcome!

the kitchen

We will have two refrigerators, two microwaves, a water line for the coffee maker, a garbage disposal and a dishwasher. Upper and lower cabinets in an L shape. The microwaves will be placed next to the two refrigerators in an upper cabinet shelf. One new fridge will be purchased that will have an icemaker. The fridge in 310 will not be moved.
